Hiking with Gary Overlin at Mt.Si, Wash.

Gary Overlin and I have been friends since we were about 6 years old. We are now 24. Him and I have been through a l ot of things together, fights, birthday parties, four by fouring, camping and hiking. Our first trip was a short day hike near Snoqualmie Pass, Wash. We were looking around the trails in an a rea where we were going to do an overnight hike a few weeks later. The overnighter was a very intresting. We hiked uphill both ways! I am not lying! Well, maybe I am lying, it was up and down, but I swear it was all uphill. Anyway, on our hike I told Gary about the boy who collected green golf balls. I made this story last about 2 hours. He was not happy with the ending... he actaully said "So, what did he do with the golf balls?" I couldn't do anything but laugh. If you have never heard the story of green golf balls send me some mail. I will be happy to tell you all about it.

On our most recent hike/ camping trip, we went to Mt. Si, Wash. We found a camping spot and set-up camp. We got up the next day and started our hike. It was the first hike of the season for us. We were not ready for the hike we did. We set out for the Hot Springs. That was to be a 4 and a half mile hike. It turned out that there were no Hot Springs on the trail we took. This was odd, becuase the trailhead said there were some. So after 5 miles up we came to a fork in the trail. I looked at the map to see where we were. There was a lake at the end of each trail that forked off. We decided to go to M yrtle Lake. It was about another 1 and a half miles. We spent the next hour making our way to Myrtle lake. The higher we got the more snow that covered the ground. When we reached the lake, the snow was about 3 feet deep. We were pretty high up in the mountians. We were dressed for sun. I had shorts and a tee-shirt on, and so did Gary. Anyway, we reached the lake and sat down for about 30 minutes. Then we headed back down the mountain to our camping spot. On the way back down Gary climbed d own to a small water fall. This was a 13 mile hike! We were only planning on about 9 miles. We were dead once we got back to the camp, but the Seattle Mariners were about to play ball! They won, and I have great memories of that day and that hike with my best friend Gary Overlin.
