GUN CONTROL

Gun Control Paper- this is a 12 page paper I wrote for Philosophy 102. It is well done and covers many arguments provided by the Anti-gun group.

Gun control is simple. Convicted felons can not posses guns. Convicted violent misdemeanors can not posses guns. There should be no law that prohibits the possession of fully-automatic guns, semi-automatic guns, hi-capacity magazines, and other "dangerous and illegal guns". The gun itself is not dangerous, it is the person who possess it. If a gun is used in the commission of a crime the person will automatically get a life term. One strike and they are out. If someone is killed d uring or after the commission of a crime then it is the death penalty for all the criminals involved. There is no reason that people who use guns for legitimate purposes should be banned from owning them. Legitimate purposes include but are not limited t o: hunting, trap shooting, target shooting, competition shooting, "plinking", self defense, home security, business security, police work, and collecting.

A nationwide concealed carry law should be enacted. This would allow people to carry a gu n for personal protection with they are commuting across the city, county, state or country. Robbers and car jackers would be less likely to commit their crimes if they think they have a chance to die while they are stealing.

I am in favor of a gun safety class being taught in high school. Just like they teach Home-Ec and Sex Education, I think that gun safety would be a very important class that students should take. They could learn proper ways of handling guns, cleaning guns, unloading a nd loading guns. For further training they can take an elective shooter course where they actually get to shoot guns and better their target shooting.
