ENVIRONMENT

I believe that we should not purposely ruin our environment. We should not dump oil straight into streams, etc. We need to live on the Earth and make a living at the same time. I believe that this scenario can co-exist. Some people do not believe that man and the Earth can co-exist because they think that we are little devils trying to ruin the Earth for all the cute furry animals. I think that as men created in the image of God we are a part of the Earth. Some people would have you believe that man was an accident, that man was created through a lot of chance events. Because of this people believe that man is actually a detriment to the Earth and that we don't belong here. I totally disagree.

Recycling

I recycle my pop cans because it earns me money. People would have you believe that if we don't recycle our pop cans (aluminum) that they will end up in a dump and never be used again. Because it (aluminum) is limited resource we would soon run out. But the law of Conservation of Matter says that matter is not created or destroyed. All the matter and energy that are in the world now have always been here and will always be here. Sometimes in different forms, but it will always be here. So all we have to do is mine it out of the land fills. This gives us more jobs and a chance to re-use the resources of the Earth. This goes for all the resources not just aluminum.

Heating and Cooling

All the scares we have about the Earth cooling and heating are getting old. If you look over time the Earth cools and heats up. This is a trend that takes place over thousands to millions of years. People see a 5 or 10 year cooling or heating trend and they become 'chicken little'.

Grass Burning

Here in the Eastern Washington and North Idaho area there is a controversy about grass burning. The government asks that farmers go 'blue grass' to help fight erosion. Then when it is time to plant the new crops the farmers burn off the blue grass to make room for the crops. Now people are complaining about the smoke and breathing problems. I love grass burning season. It puts out a pleasant smell and gives us great sunsets. It also tells me that summer is here. I would say that the environmentalists are in a tough spot here. They don't want the farmers to burn the grass, but at the same time they don't want the ground to erode away. The law makers are now going to phase out grass burning over the next few years and the farmers have said they will stop growing the blue grass.

Sealions Vs. Salmon

One other problem that is taking place at this time is sealions eating salmon near Seattle. They have spent years and a large amount trying to get rid of the sealions. With all the people worried about the salmon runs you would think that they would kill the sealions to protect the salmon. This is not the case. They don't want you to kill nice little sealions but they also want to protect the dwindling salmon runs. I say kill the sealions.
