CRIME

Crime is ruining our peace of mind and trust in other people. When was the last time you stopped for someone who was broken down on the side of the road? How many hitchhikers have you stopped to pick up? Do you lock the doors to your car? House? Shed? Do you hate having to pay higher prices at stores because of shoplifters? Why should we have to lock our stuff up? We should instead lock up the people who can not stop themselves from stealing.
What about other major crimes? Should we put up with people who rape others? How about those who beat others or kills others? I don't want these people to share the same freedoms that I have. I keep my life on the straight and narrow. I don't expect every one to keep their life on the up and up, but when they don't they have forfeited their rights as an United States citizen and should be jail for a full term. Parole should only be given out in rare cases. It should be the exception and not the rule.

How would I stop crime?

1. Tough jail sentences, without a lot of people being able to be paroled.

Rational: When crime pays there is a lot of it. Until we take the incentive out of robbing people, beating people and killing people we will all be victims of crime. If someone is put in jail for 20 years for robbing someone then the robber is off the streets for those 20 years. That is one less crook out there. Criminals will start to see that robbing people no longer pays.
Think of this in terms of a business. They will not produce a product that only loses money. Right now crime is like a best selling product. People see that crimes' side effect (jail time) is not as bad as its benefits (Money).

2. Execution of murders, drug dealers, and rapists.

Rational: By executing people like Ted Bundy, Westly Allen Dodd, and all the other murders we will rid our society of people who have proven themselves capable of committing murder. I would give special consideration to people who kill in self defense. I also show mercy for those who kill accidentally, as long as the killing was not done in a highly negligent manor.
Drug dealers are as bad, if not worse than baby beaters and elderly beaters. We should have no mercy for drug dealers. Execution is the only way we could show people that we are serious about drug control. Drug dealing pays. It pays really big! Death is the only real deterrent to that kind of money that dealing drugs pays.

Read my paper about the death penality it is called Should Jon Sayers Die? You be the Judge.

3. Three strikes and you're out laws are good. We must lower it to two strikes and you're out.

Rational: Why should someone get three chances? If they don't learn after the first time they are caught and put in jail then there is something wrong. By following a few of the guidelines that I have outlined above we will have taken out the fact that crime pays. After crime no longer pays the only people who still will be committing crime are the ones who really could care less. These people should be behind bars. We don't need to slow down the rest of society trying to hold on to these people. They messed up. Kick them off the bus and keep on let us trucking. Lets put money into things other than trying to reform criminals. Lets instead put the money into our schools, police, jails, parks and recreational uses. Why spend our tax money on people who don't contribute to our society?

4. Eliminate the drinking age all together.

Rational: A lot of crime comes from alcohol abuse. Americans abuse alcohol because they do not grow up with it, but rather they are teased by it. Alcohol abuse stems from kids who see a substance that others use while having fun. But us adults say "no!" you can't have any until you are 21 years old. This really gives the kids the wrong idea about alcohol. I think that a kid having a glass of wine at dinner with his parents, or a beer after a football game with his dad is a good thing. Kids will no longer view alcohol as something cool and mysterious, but rather something that is okay to have in moderation.
Studies suggest that a glass of alcohol a day is good for you. Over all I think that by allowing kids to grow up with alcohol they will not see it as a means to "get drunk and have fun" but rather as a beverage.

5. People who are willing to lend a hand to someone in trouble.

Rational: When someone is getting beat up or robbed, people should come from all around to help out. Think about it. When one guy is being robbed by one other guy it is one on one. As soon as people start to come over and help it becomes five on one or ten on one. Those are not good odds for the criminal. This show of force will make criminals think twice before robbing or beating someone up.

6. Get together and stand up to gang activity.

Rational: When the neighborhood you live in decides that they no longer want gangs on their block all they need to do is stand up and fight for their neighborhood. When a problem first arises take action. Don't wait until it gets too bad. Start a block watch, maybe even some vigilantism would be good. Over all remember this is YOUR neighborhood and no one has the right to make it unsafe to be out after dark.

7. Ease up gun control. Create a nation-wide concealed carry law.

Rational: With a nation-wide concealed carry law people will be able to carry a gun to protect themselves from street vermin and thugs. When law abiding citizens are allowed to get guns there is more of a chance that a criminal will get killed.
